End of year reflection thingy..

Something I have accomplished tr his yeais getting chosen to participate in the Aims Games. It was the first time Winton School has taken part and getting our first try was really special.

My biggest improvement was in reading because I learnt alot of new strategies. I have also had some really good test results that I’m proud of.

My favourite subject was P.E because I have enjoyed learning new games and skills outside with my class and having Sports Southland coaches come in and teach new sports like Volleyball and Cricket.  My other favourite subject is Writing because I have new ways to make my writing interesting.

Next year my goal is to get involved in everything I can or want to do.  I also want to learn to play the drums and guitar.

Deep cove reflection...

We were all sprinting along the road to the Real Journeys dock all of us in wet weather gear. When we got to the dock we walked along the wharf to the huge two story catermaran. As we boraded the magnificent beast we were told to go upstairs. to our suprise we had the whole boat to ourself I sat at a booth with Adam, Ben, Jane, Ashlee, Mark and I. As we looked out the window we saw the huge thundering waterfalls there were more than the day before and the ones that were there the day before were bigger. As we left we saw how choppy Doubtful Sound was. The captain told us we would be going into Hall arm because it would be carmer in there. When we got to Hall arm we saw waterfalls everywhere it looked as if the mountian were bleeding or crying. The Captain navigated into the arm. All of us silent taking in the view. At the end of the arm the Captain steered the boat under a waterfall the water just cm from the boat. On the way back we came across a small island called rolla island inhabited by small penguins apparently the smallest in the world. We stared at the little creatures as the jumped of there pearch and into the cold water. Then we came round a smal point and we saw the hostel and a big old blue boat that we pasted on the way to Hall arm. As we docked I thought to myself ‘I will remember this for a long long time !’

After we had a look around we drove over Wilmot pass to Deep Cove. At Deep Cove my favourite activity was going on the boat cruise on Doubtful Sound my favourite walk was Hanging Valley because it was challenging and steep but I didn't get to do the whole thing because I had to go home on the Thursday afternoon. Holiday recount...

Well I just realised that this post is a good milestone for me its my 60 post since I started my blog last year. Well done me. Right on with the post.

Our holiday of a life time started with one very vivid moment. We were sitting in CHCH airport our flight has been delayed which was no biggy but then Katy came over to us and said "guys we got a problem" Mum said "what" Katy replied that our flights been cancelled!! We all walked over to the TV with disbelieve and sadly to our shock it was true. So Dad walked over to the desk and talked to the lady about what flight we would be put on. Then over the loud speaker it said anyone who has been affected by the flight to Collangatta can you please come and speak to the Air NZ desk. So Mum and Dad went over to the desk while Archie and I went to play on the I Pads at the Duty Free shop. About a hour later Katy called us over to the Air NZ desk where Mum told us we were getting a flight from CHCH to Auckland then a Virgin flight to Collangatta. So we went up to the food court and grabbed some food and then we went to our gate and ate our food. After that we got on the plane. Once we landed we meet a lady who was also supposed to be on the flight that was cancelled. Her name was Amanda, we also met two ladies called Rachel and Utta, who was Rachel's Auntie so we called her Auntie. We rushed over to the international building where we went to check-in when the people at the Virgin desk said your ticket hasn't been booked properly so you can't board you have to go to the Air NZ desk. So we ran over to the Air NZ desk because when we got there we had 3 mins till the check-in closed after 10 minutes of arguing with the lady at the Air NZ desk we knew we wouldnt make the flight. The manager of Air NZ took us over to this posh hotel were we had dinner with Auntie ,Rachel and Amanda. The next day we woke up at 6am to make the flight at 9.25. We got on the flight with Amanda. Rachel and Auntie went to Brisbane. the flight took about 3 hours I sat by Dad and Archie. When we landed we said our goodbyes to Amanda then we got the taxi to the hotel we quickly put our stuff away and we left for the V8 Super Cars.
So far we have been to both V8 races on the Saturday and Sunday and Dream World on Tuesday and today we are going to Whitewater world.

Please comment and ask any questions.

My friend sloth.

My friend sloth.

Have you always wanted an exotic animal that you
don’t have to walk was and all that other pet stuff?
Its lazy poo’s and pee’s once a week and sleeps for
At least 10 hours a day. How about a pet sloth?

I strongly believe that the sloth is the best pet in the
World. The reason I think this is sloths sleep for up to
20 hours a day. Plus they only move from 1.8 to 2.4
Metres a minute so no more lost pets. Also sloths poo
And pee once a week so there is a lot less poop scooping
Because we all hate that job. They are also family friendly
And long-lived. So no more vicious pets that bite everything
And die when it’s four. You also need to chosse the right sort of sloth
there are three toed sloths and two toed sloths so make sure you get
the right toed sloth for you.

Another great feature about the sloth is its very clean.
You must be thinking sloths are pretty cool animals but
Some sloths can be a bit dumb! Some sloths grab their arms
Thinking it’s a tree branch and then they slip and fall
To their deaths! Nice ae. Now that you want a sloth
I will tell you what you need to have and know to cater for your sloth.

When you feed your sloth feed it fruit, leaves, buds and tender shoots.
Also give your sloth lots of loving and do NOT wake him/her up when they are sleeping.

What you will need to contain your Sloth you will need.
A stream
Some music that has water rushing and parrots squawking.
You will need tree’s or branch’s that your sloth can sleep or hang on.
Also you will need some animals so your sloth feels at home.
The Amazon is also very hot and humid so you will need a heater to keep the room temperature.

So if you are looking for an exotic animal that’s friendly, clean and always has a cute we smile on its face go buy a pet sloth from your local exotic pet store.

My narrative.

Check out my narrative.

The minute you turn away.

“Ding Ding Ding”went the golden bell of the toy shop door as the manager left to lock up. There was a white flash through the window as he left. It wasn’t dark because the brig neon billboards lit up the New York skyline.
“Has he gone yet” howled Clumsy Smurf.
“Shut up you stuck up little Smurf!’ Snapped Ted from across the room.
Time passed and the toys played. The toy shop was so crowded with shelves the toys were constantly bumping into each other.
“Oi Nigel move!”
“I can’t Ted I didn’t mean to bump you.”
These two statements turned into a massive verbal fight over the room the each had in the shop.
“It’s not fair your Lego men get all the room!” Whined Bruce.
“WHAT! I’ll have you know my men take up no room at all!” Growled General Rufus the head of the Lego men.
After another hour of squabbling Phil decided that they should draw a line.
“That might work.” stuttered Rex. Callum

So Clumsy jumped on Bruce and the flew of through a hole in the iron roof. They flew over buildings and through alleyways until finally they reached ‘Bill’s Barn of Books and stationary.’ They flew into the shop through a small open window. Clumsy jumped of Bruce and sprinted around the shop until he found a invisible ink pen. He snatched it off the shelve and he ran back to Bruce and the flew off.

Halfway back the weather got worse the wind picked up. Clumsy was rocking side to side. Suddenly he slipped right off bruce. Bruce swooped down and tried to catch him but Clumsy was out of sight. Clumsy fell and tumbled into a water fountain. He jumped out and started to walk, he didn’t know where he was going he just knew he wanted to go home! Hours past and back at the toy shop the toys were starting to get worried even Ted! They were biting their fingernails and chattering their teeth. Clumsy walked and walked he stumbled right past Lady Liberty without even knowing. It started to brighten, now the orange and yellow sun was rising over the Manhattan skyline. He was still stumbling along when he saw an amazing sight. The Toy Store he knew it was the toy store because it was right beside Central Park and his favourite place ‘Central Park Zoo.’

He ran straight to the Toy Shop dodging people and cars as he ran. He jumped straight through the brass mail flap and quietly sat back on the shelve with all of his friends, then they sat quietly side by side hand in hand.

Holidays

In the Holidays I was Invited to Adam's Birthday, for his birthday we went paint balling at Sandy Point. We picked up Ben, Adams Grandad and Adams family friend Damon on the way. When we got there another of Adams family friends Harley was there. We got our guns and amour and the man explained the rules and we chose the teams. The Teams were Arron, (Adam's stepdad) Adam's Grandad, Grace (Adam's step sister) and I. Against Adam, Ben, Damon and Harley. We walked into the very dence arena which was just Pine Tree's. We walked down to our base and the horn went. Grace and I stayed at the base while Arron and Adam's grandad went forward. Suddenly SPLAT a paintball hit the base. After that I said to my self 'that's it im out of here' so I ran to the nearest cover which was a pile of sticks while I ran I could here that thump thump thump of the guns firing at me. I crouched down and saw Ben moving up so I shot at him and gave him a massive bruise. I was lying down now when I saw Hurley run down to our base and grab our flag. I was shooting him but I kept missing he shot at me a got me in the ankle I said i was hit and ran back to the respawn point. The horn went off to signel the end of the game. I had a look at my wound and it was bleeding ouch! This time we switched base's this time I didn't stay at the base I moved up on the right flank. But just infront of me moving up through the bushes was Adam and Ben I run back a bit to some cover. I stayed there and told Grace there was people on the right side. So she started shooting Adam and Ben. Then suddenly Damon came rushing up to the base from out of nowhere he got the flag and sprinted back to his base with the 'Tump Thump Thump' of our gun's firing at him.

We carried on doing more battles untill we were all out of paint!

Fair trade.

This term and last term we have been finding out about Fair trade. At first I did know any thing about Fair trade but now I know lots. So next time when I go shopping with mum. Mum you better watch out. We learnt about how Fair trade helps the producers and pickers in third world countries. As a consumer I will buy more Fair trade goods so I am supporting these poor child slaves. So next time you do your weekly shop buy Fair trade products and not Nestle, Mars or Hershey go cadbury all the way if you want chocolate.

Here is my writing about Fair trade.

Child slavery in the Chocolate Industry

Man don’t you love that sweet bar of Kit-Kat with the nice crunch of biscuit in the middle. Well behind the label it isn’t so sweet.

Child slavery has been used for years big company bosses employ them simply because its cheaper. That’s not right! If children do the work in place of adults they should get paid the same. One of the biggest cocoa producers the Ivory Coast has up to 200,000 children working on cocoa plantations alone. Most of these children are working under the worst form of child slavery. Would you like to send your children to work under these conditions? These are children from the ages 6-14 working 12 hours a day using dangerous tools like machetes and they aren’t even getting paid! These kids should at least have a minimum wage. Some children are forced to work. Other children get kidnapped straight of there door step. Or the other poor orphans get sold to companies for no more than $20 US each! That’s not fair humans are worth more than anything else on this planet!

Some of the cocoa plantations on the Ivory Coast supply brands like Nestle, Hershey’s and Mars. These companies’ especially Nestlé have been known for using child slavery. I have found out that Nestle have a factory in the Ivory Coast just down the road from a port. Doesn’t this tell you something? A brand known for using child slavery having a factory by a port in a country that has up to 200,000 children working on cocoa plantations alone! I think these poor children should be at school getting an education at least.

What would your life be like if you were one of these poor children?
Well you would wake up at 6.00 am and be shivering after another cold night in hardly any clothes and bare feet. You would walk out and grab your machete and start work. Now you have spotted your first cocoa pod you hold the branch carefully trying not to slip and cut your arm off. THWAK you slip and cut a massive gash in arm you need medical help. Your boss has none of it you are still forced to work. You keep working until 6.00 pm, your cut is still bleeding you are starting to feel drowsy so you lie down on the floor and try get to sleep. All of that just so you can enjoy an small bar of Kit-Kat. Don’t you feel selfish?

If you want to make a difference buy fair trade certified goods because they give more money to the producers and growers and they help build schools and medical centres. Also if you think Mars, Nestlé and Hershey’s should stop using child slavery or you want to help. Don’t buy their products it’s a simple as that!
